Rihanna doing well

RIHANNA'S TOTAL WORLD-WIDE record sales are approaching the ten million mark in just three years.

And in addition to her massive fan base in the United States, the teenaged Bajan singing sensation has a "huge" following in Europe, Japan and other countries.

This was disclosed by her mentor, Evan Rogers, the American composer and music producer who spotted the then 16-year-old Robyn Rihanna Fenty's talent three years ago while on a trip here with his Barbadian wife, Jackie.

It was he and his wife who encouraged the aspiring singer's parents to allow Rihanna to go to Connecticut to seek success in the entertainment industry.

"She is just a great talent in this global music business," Rogers said in commenting on the singer's six Grammy Award nominations last Friday.

"I feel proud and I feel like I am walking on air," he added.

"It's three years of hard work and now to see it come to what you have always dreamed is beyond words. I just can't describe it.

"I was hoping that she would get nominated and I thought we deserve to. I thought we should have gained a nomination last year, but to get six now and two of the biggest, that exceeds all of our dreams."

Evans' wife, Jackie, a former executive of the Barbados Tourism Authority in New York, said she too "was walking on air for Rihanna" and described it as the "most deserving and remarkable thing that could happen" to anyone.

Jackie, who served as a surrogate mother during the star's initial days in the United States, driving her to and from appointments, described Rihanna as a "very talented and extremely appreciative young woman who takes things in stride".

Last Friday it was announced that Rihanna's was nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Dance Recording, Best R&B Song, Best Rap/Song Collaboration and Best R&B Performance.

The 50th annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on February 10 and will be broadcast live on CBS Television.

The Grammy ballots for the final round of selection were scheduled to be mailed out to the academy's voting members this week.

They are due back to the accounting firm of Deloitte by January 9. The results will be tabulated and kept secret until the telecast.

Rihanna’s Tour Keeps Rolling Through Europe

As her European tour rolls along, Rihanna continues to add to an already impressive international following - and the R&B superstar still can’t believe it.

Most recently, the Umbrella singer donned her dominatrix costume and hit the stage in Glasgow on Friday night. From there, it was off to London, where she’s taking the stage on Sunday (December 16).

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Times Online, the Barbados native talked about past dates on her tour - and how she’s amazed by the turnout.

Rihanna tells, “I did a show in Belgrade. We were expecting 6,000 people and 24,000 showed up. And I couldn’t understand why. I...”

Nearly in tears, the 19-year-old continued, “I look at them and I still think, ‘Why are you screaming for me?’ I still think of myself as a normal girl.”

Rihanna Wants To Tour With Winehouse

rihanna sexy, rihanna nude, rihanna winehouse
R&B sensation Rihanna wants Amy Winehouse to rid herself of drugs and alcohol so the pair can tour the U.S together.

Winehouse – who has been taking time out from her career after her much publicised drugs over dose on August 8 – looked fragile during her musical comeback at the Mercury Music Prize awards on Tuesday.

But the Umbrella star believes that all is but lost for the gifted soul singer.

"I'm worried about Amy” said the 19-year-old “I want her to get better as I love her.

"There's not a doubt in my mind she can still be successful in America even though she's been linked to drugs.

"It'd be awesome to go on tour with her in the States. I'd love her to join me."

How hot would that be?

Rihanna wants a sexy dominatrix theme for UK tour.

‘Umbrella’ singer Rihanna, who set to begin a series of concerts in December this year- has said that she is keen to wow fans with her revealing S+M-themed costumes and kinky dance routines.

Rihanna told British newspaper The Daily Star: “The tour is going to be very rock star, very sexy with a dominatrix theme.

“I’m very involved with the creative process. We have been busy planning, coming up with costume ideas.”

The singer has said that she refuses to be sidelined during the organization of the shows, saying: “I have professionals who guide me, but I like to know what’s going on and make suggestions that we collaborate on.”

19-year-old Rihanna also revealed she is being lined up to launch her own clothing range.

She said: “I can’ say any brand names until the deal is signed, but it’s happening.”

Video Music Awards nominations rain down on Rihanna's "umbrella"

Rihanna is slated to perform at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night at 8 on MTV. and Beyoncé is a nominee at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, airing Sunday on MTV.

When it rains, it pours, and Rihanna can thank her Umbrella for a shower of MTV Video Music Award nominations.

The young singer has four bids going into the 2007 edition of the event, which the cable music channel televises Sunday, September 9, from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. She's also set to perform on the show, as are Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and Chris Brown.

So is Timbaland, slated for extra duty by hosting a 'Fantasy Suites' party with Justin Timberlake, who leads the pack (along with Beyoncé) with seven nominations.

Featuring Jay-Z, Umbrella - the first single off Rihanna's third CD, Good Girl Gone Bad - has been one of the top songs of the summer. It's a 2007 VMA nominee for video of the year and monster single of the year and has also garnered nods for Rihanna as female artist of the year and Chris Applebaum as best director.

Rihanna takes special pride in those acknowledgments since, as she says, "It's not the typical summer song. It's not up-tempo and not really a club song, just something very powerful that happened to come along at the right time. The first time I heard it, I fell in love with it. For once, I didn't think, 'I wonder if people are going to like it.' I knew what it was in my heart. I had my own instinct, and I felt it was going to do great."

Rihanna was right: The tune roared onto the airwaves in March, preceding the album's release by a couple of months and reaching the top of several Billboard magazine charts simultaneously. It displays another aspect of Rihanna's talent, following the energetic SOS and the introspective Unfaithful, her hits from the album A Girl Like Me that also gave her a big summer last year.

Musical variety

"That's key for me," the 19-year-old Barbados native says of her musical variety. "When I started, I didn't really have a plan. I was just very excited to have a record deal and make music and perform all over the world. I had a little more input on the second album, then the third album was where I really got into it. I wanted to change my image and my sound a bit, and I really wanted to show people my growth. When I leave this industry, I want to be remembered for being an individual."

Among the situations in which Rihanna has performed Umbrella, a standout for her was Live Earth, the international July concert to promote environmental awareness.

"It was such an honour to be there," she says. "It was a huge event all over the world, but it was also just a great show. I was in Japan, and the audience was amazing, to see them singing all the words. They may not speak any English, but they know all the words to all the songs."

Gratified as she is to have such fans, Rihanna also relies on a strong support system of friends. "I could not ask for better cheerleaders," she says. "They always have my back. They'll still let me know if something was just OK or really horrible, but they're team players, for sure."

Rihanna feels the same way about MTV, which showcased her American television debut at the MTV Movie Awards in June.

"From day one, they've played all my videos and helped support my albums," she says. "I show them so much love because they show it in turn."

In showing hers, Rihanna says she is planning "a very special performance" for the VMAs but adds, "I won't tell you anything!"

She also welcomes any chance to depart from the norm.

"I've performed SOS hundreds of times," she says, "and with something like Unfaithful, it's very deep, so you have to act it out every time. After a while, it can get to be like, 'OK, do I have to perform this again?' For some reason, though, every time I perform Umbrella is like the first time. It's always new."

Yielding singles

Good Girl Gone Bad is still in its early phase of yielding singles (among them Shut Up and Drive and Don't Stop the Music), so Rihanna isn't actively thinking about her next album yet. However, she reflects, "Being around Timbaland (on the day the VMA nominations were announced), it made me want to get back in the studio to make good music. I really enjoy working with people like him, but you have to step back and say to yourself, 'OK, hold off. You just put out an album.'

That could make the Video Music Awards challenging for Rihanna, since she'll be around many other stars she also considers inspirations.

"They have their own faith in things," she reasons, "and you can see their success. Kanye West, for instance, he has so much input into everything, and you see that it comes across as very authentic. Justin Timberlake is another one I really adore. I also love Fall Out Boy and, of course, Beyoncé and Madonna. Gwen Stefani is another great one.

"I love being at events like this," she continues. "You're working, but you're working with people who do the same thing as you. It's a great energy, with everyone getting along and making jokes. That's why I love award shows."

But don't suggest being nominated in next year's Grammy Awards to Rihanna, at least not yet.

"If it pops up in my mind, I just have to shut it down," she says. "I can't think about it. I'm getting nervous already."

Rihanna is slated to perform at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday on MTV.

EARLY LIFE
Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados to Ronald and Monica Fenty. Her mother is Guyanese and her father is Barbadian. She has two younger brothers named Rorrey and Rajad. Rihanna went to Charles F. Broome Memorial School, a primary school in Barbados, and then on to one of Barbados' Grammar (older secondary) schools, the Combermere School, where she formed a musical trio with two of her classmates. In 2004, she won the Miss Combermere Beauty Pageant and performed in the Colours of Combermere School Show, singing Mariah Carey's "Hero". At the age of 15, Rihanna received her big break when one of her friends introduced her to music producer Evan Rogers, who was vacationing in Barbados with his wife. Rogers, along with his partner, Carl Sturken, helped Rihanna record material in the U.S. which was sent to various recording companies. One copy of Rihanna's work was sent to Jay-Z, who eventually signed her to Def Jam Records. Rihanna cites Alicia Keys, Beyonce and her Caribbean background as major musical influences. Rihanna also stated in an interview that her friend and former Island Def Jam record label artist Fefe Dobson was someone that she admired and looked up to, having a fellow artist writing, singing, and performing the music she truly loves.

MUSIC CAREER

Music of the Sun
Main article: Music of the Sun
Rihanna's debut album Music of the Sun, which she co-wrote, was released in August 2005. The first single released from the album was the track "Pon De Replay", which peaked at number two on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart due to considerable airplay. The second single, "If It's Lovin' That You Want", was less successful than its predecessor, peaking on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 36, and number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. The album itself peaked within the top ten in Canada, and the U.S., and within the top forty in the UK. It has received platinum certifications in several countries, and received a Gold certification in the U.S. by the RIAA. To further promote the album, Rihanna toured as an opening act for American pop singer Gwen Stefani. The album sold over 500,000 units in the U.S. and over 2 million worldwide. The album features many dancehall songs that harken to her island upbringing. Because her second album, A Girl Like Me was released so soon after Music of the Sun, no more singles were released.

A GIRL LIKE ME

Main article: A Girl like Me (Rihanna album)
In 2006, Rihanna participated in several endorsement deals, including for Nike and J.C. Penney. She released her second album, A Girl Like Me, in April 2006, less than eight months after the release of her first album. The album debuted at number five in the U.S. and number four in the UK. The lead single, "SOS", was used in her endorsement deal with Nike. The song became Rihanna's first number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; it also debuted at number one on the Hot Digital Songs chart. "SOS" peaked at number one in Australia and number two in the UK. The second single, entitled "Unfaithful", was written by R&B singer Ne-Yo, and addresses the feelings of guilt that the protagonist of the song faces as she cheats on her boyfriend. The song became her third top ten hit in the U.S. and in the UK. The third single "We Ride" wasn't as successful as her previous releases, failing to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, however, it became her fifth UK top 20 single, where it peaked at number 17 on that chart and peaked number one on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart. Rihanna's fourth single from the album "Break It Off" featuring Sean Paul, had already climbed to number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 based solely on airplay. It was released as a digital download on February 19, 2007, which made the song jump from number fifty-two to number ten and then eventually peak at number nine.
In total Rihanna has had 11 different number-ones on the Billboard charts and has had major success on the Hot Dance Club Play chart with four number-ones ("Pon De Replay", "SOS", "Unfaithful" and "We Ride"). When Rihanna received an endorsement deal from Clinique, she recorded a song written by Ne-Yo entitled "Just Be Happy" as part of the deal to promote their Happy fragrance. The song can be heard on her Myspace page. Rihanna also recently recorded a song called "Winning Women" with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger for P&G’s female deodorant Secret.
Rihanna made her acting debut in a cameo role in Bring It On: All or Nothing, which was released on August 8, 2006, she also appeared on an episode of American soap opera All My Children and drama Las Vegas.

GOOD GIRL GON BAD

Main article: Good Girl Gone Bad
Rihanna went in the studio in the early 2007 with Ne-Yo, Stargate, Timbaland among others to record her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad. The album was released on June 5, 2007. It features Jay-Z and Ne-Yo as featured artists. The first single, "Umbrella", featuring Jay-Z, was released on March 29, 2007 reaching number one in various countries, including the U.S. It was produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The Dream" Nash. Then her second single, "Shut Up and Drive", was sent to radio stations on June 5, has so far peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her third single, "Don't Stop The Music" was premiered on BET's 106 & Park on July 20, 2007. Rihanna also stated that the album has a different feel from her previous two, with more up-tempo and mid-tempo melodies.
Rihanna worked with Timbaland on three songs in the album. Justin Timberlake co-wrote and provides background vocals on "Rehab".[13] In interviews, many have questioned the meaning and reasoning of the album title. During an interview on UK radio station Capital FM, Rihanna explains: "Bad is not sleazy. Bad has its own term to every individual and in my case it just means I’ve gotten a little rebellious on the album, broken out of my shell and I'm taking risks... Michael Jackson 'bad' kind of way."[14] The album title reflects the difference between the old and new Rihanna. "Bad means cool, bad means funky, bad means having an attitude, bad means being edgy. This album is definitely a great representation of who I am now, and where I am in my career," she says.[15]
Rihanna was recently named 2007 Venus Breeze 'Celebrity Legs of a Goddess' by Gillette, and she insured her legs for $1,000,000.[16] Rihanna is also set to be going on tour with Chris Brown and Bow Wow.
On July 7, 2007, Rihanna performed at the Japanese leg of Live Earth in Tokyo.
Starting December 6, 2007 Rihanna will tour the UK in support of the album with ten shows, it is called the Good Girl Gone Bad Tour. On Monday of last week, Chris Brown confirmed that Rihanna is going to be on his album.
