RIHANNA is determined to use her pop star status to help other women who fall victim to domestic abuse, following her notorious bust-up with ex-boyfriend CHRIS BROWN.
The pop star was thrust into the limelight following the February (09) incident, which left her battered and bruised at the hands of her former lover.
Rihanna kept completely quiet in the press as she recovered, but she's now ready to use the media attention to help other women caught in violent relationships.
She tells America's Glamour magazine, "Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbour know that you fight. It’s one of the things we (women) will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery.
"The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women."
Disgraced singer Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna after a pre-Grammy Awards party and has since been sentenced to community service and five years' probation.
After watching Rihanna's interview with Diane Swayer I was completely impressed by her answers, but most of all her last words "F love don't reached on love, love is completely blind" I am a 37 year old who has gone through a similar experience and I can relate to all of her feelings on the subject. I have been a victim of domestic violence myself-of being beaten black n' blue, and yet, feeling absolutely powerless and yet in love with my abuser. I was never ready to accept that or able to get out. And she is right-it's embrassing to be so far in love with someone who disrespects you so much. Timing before the release of her album has nothing to do with it. She is so young, yet is far more mature and courageous to be speaking out. The world already knows what happened, how does it matter when she speaks out. She is right in every single thing she has said in her Tell-All interview.
